Julian Fifer

He is the executive director of Musicians For Human Rights. A native New Yorker and former cellist, he founded the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in 1972. As a conductorless orchestra that values each musician´ s interpretive ideas as much as technical prowess, Orpheus became one of the world´ s most highly acclaimed classical music groups, recording over 50 albums for Deutsche Grammophon and spawning a generation of musician-led ensembles. Believing that music can help students become engaged citizens, he co-founded with Bruce Adolphe The Learning Maestros, a company dedicated to creating compositions that integrate music with science, history, literature, visual art, and social justice. Since 1999, he has managed the Venice Baroque Orchestra.
