Holger Matt

Studied law and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main. Earned his doctorate in 1993 ("summa cum laude") in Criminal Law and Philosophy of Law. For this work he also received the Eduard-Martin-Award of the University of the Saarland. Having work experiences as a researcher and lecturer in the field of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedural Law and Constitution of Courts from 1985 on, in 2006 he was appointed as a honorary professor of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University of Frankfurt am Main. He teaches criminal law and criminal procedural law. He has been called as expert witness for the German Constitutional Court and at many expert hearings in matters of (national and international) criminal and criminal procedural law in Germany and in Europe. Since 2009 Advisor of the European Commission in Brussels for criminal law and criminal procedural law. Prof Dr Matt received his admission to the bar of Frankfurt am Main in 1993. Since 2000 he is entitled to act as a specialist lawyer for Criminal Law. Since 1999 he is a member of the Criminal Law Committee of German Federal Bar (BRAK). 2003-2008 Vice Chairman, since 2008 Chairman of the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA). Since 1989 many publications and lectures in the field of criminal law, criminal procedural law, philosophy of law, policy of law and legal education.
