Muriel-Aimée Trummer

After finishing her law studies in Bern (Switzerland) in 2002, Muriel-Aimée worked for several years as a lawyer representing asylum seekers and migrants throughout their administrative procedures. Afterwards, she worked at a specialised refugee organisation focussing on international developments and legal research on current legal and policy issues in the field of refugee and migration law. From 2014 to 2016, she participated in the two-year Postgraduate Programme ´Vienna Master of Arts in Human Rights´ in Austria. During the Masters, she conducted an internship with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights in Strasbourg. After finishing her studies in Vienna, she started to work for UNHCR as a protection officer before she took over the Refugee Protection Coordination for Amnesty International Switzerland. As of January 2020, she took over a new position as senior protection officer again at the UNHCR Office for Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The right to participate directly in democratic processes has fascinated Muriel-Aimée since her youth. Yet, with the rise of the SVP she increasingly questioned these instruments. Through her daily work in the field of human rights, it was therefore of great concern to her to get to the bottom of the question of the compatibility of these typical Swiss instruments with the state´s obligations under international law.
